Earth Day is an annual event celebrated on 22 April to raise awareness and mobilize action to protect
the environment. It was first observed in 1970 and has since become a global event celebrated by
individuals, communities, and governments to promote conservation, sustainability, and efforts to
address environmental challenges such as climate change, pollution, and habitat loss.
Students of grade IX celebrated Earth Day in school on 22nd April 2024. The theme for World Earth Day
2024 is Planet vs Plastics. Students enthusiastically participated in the activity Fire Talk Chain: Planet Vs
Plastics. Students form a circle or semicircle by standing or sitting comfortably. Each student spoke for
30 to 40 seconds. Students connected their thoughts with the previous speaker's ideas and spoke
confidently on why plastic should be avoided, the need for sustainable practices etc.
The importance of celebrating Earth Day should not be on the 22nd of April every year, but by
celebrating it every day.
