Meera, also known as Meera Bai, is a celebrated saint, well known for her extensive devotional poetry and songs dedicated to Krishna. Grade VIII students were engaged in a group discussion to expound the meanings of different stanzas from the poem ‘Meera Bai’ during their Hindi period. Students elucidated the devotion of Meerabai, which included ecstatic dancing and singing out of sheer love for the divine. They interpreted the metaphorical references included in the poem to give it in-depth meaning. The activity enabled the students to identify basic elements of poetry including meter, rhyme, scheme, verse, and stanza.
